Registered Nurses Who Want To Work Abroad: An IELTS Guide

None

Are you a registered nurse who wants to work in another country? One of the prerequisites for visa processing and immigration is the IELTS exam, which you may have heard of. IELTS is used by the governments of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom to evaluate immigration applications.

Selecting the Correct IELTS Test

The two IELTS exams available are IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. The test you take should be tailored to your objectives.

IELTS Academic - assesses whether your English language skills are suitable for academic settings. It looks at if you're ready to start training or studying by reflecting academic language qualities.

The IELTS General Training test - measures English language skills in a real-world environment. The assignments and tests represent both professional and social conditions.

The General IELTS is designed for students who plan to pursue secondary school or training in English-speaking countries. Academic IELTS is recommended for nurses.

IELTS Test Sections

The four components of the IELTS exam are the following:

  • listening
  • reading
  • writing
  • speaking

Both the general training and academic versions of the exam have the same Listening and Speaking sections. Candidates taking the academic module, on the other hand, will have more difficult assignments in the IELTS Reading and Writing part.

IELTS Score Required For Nurses In The US

Completing the CGFNS Visa Screen, a vital document required for the immigration procedure to obtain your visa to work and live in the United States requires English proficiency.

If you were educated in a nation where English is not the primary language, you will almost certainly be required to take an English exam; however, unique situations may allow for exemptions.

The IELTS is graded on a scale of 1 to 9 (non-user) (expert). A 6.5 overall score is required to pass the IELTS and be eligible for a US visa, while a 7 on the speaking component is required to meet US visa criteria.

Is it necessary for all international nurses wishing to work in the United States to take an English exam? If you attended a nursing school in Australia, Barbados, Canada (excluding some Quebec schools), Ireland, Jamaica, New Zealand, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Kingdom, or the United States, you may be exempted.

IELTS Score Required For United Kingdom

Nurses and midwives who want to work in the UK will still need to get an IELTS score of 7.0 overall. A 6.5 in the Writing component of the test, however, will be accepted in conjunction with a 7.0 in each of the Reading, Listening, and Speaking areas.

Which IELTS is necessary for nursing in the United States?
You'll need a 6.5 overall score to pass your IELTS and be eligible for a US visa, but you'll need a 7 on the speaking component to meet US visa criteria.

IELTS Score Required For Nurses In Australia

If you want to migrate to Australia via the skilled immigration route, you'll need a minimum IELTS score of 7 bands in all four abilities (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) in order to be considered for Australia Immigration 2021.

IELTS Score Required For Canada

The minimum IELTS score necessary for permanent residency in Canada for nurses is 6.5 overall, with at least 7 in the Speaking component and no less than 6 in any other individual component. The IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training examinations are the two types of IELTS exams.

IELTS Score Required For New Zealand

International applicants must normally demonstrate their ability to converse and comprehend English to the Nursing Council of New Zealand. After their application has been reviewed, applicants will be notified whether they need to produce proof of English competence.

Any of the following will be accepted as evidence by the Nursing Council of New Zealand:

A minimum score of 7.0 in each band of the IELTS academic assessment: reading, listening, writing, and speaking. Each portion of the Occupational English Test (OET) has a B band.

IELTS is comparable to any other exam in terms of difficulty. The questions are easy and are intended to examine your ability to use English rather than to deceive you or test your ideas. IELTS, like any other exam, necessitates rigorous preparation.
