Are you a registered nurse? Are you keen to practice your nursing profession in the US? Registered nurses who are interested in working in the United States must go through the VisaScreen procedure. To qualify for some occupational visas in the United States, nurses must now pass this screening program. 

What Is VisaScreen?

The International Commission on Healthcare Professions (ICHP), a branch of CGFNS, offers VisaScreen. VisaScreen helps healthcare professionals achieve the screening.  It confirms and analyzes nurses' credentials. The program ensures that the nurse matches the minimum eligibility standards set by the US government.

On July 25, 2003, the Department of Homeland Security released a regulation. The rule establishes a set of standards approved to evaluate nurses' credentials. By validating nurses' credentials assures compliance with the government's basic eligibility standards. VisaScreen, a program supplied by ICHP, helps them to achieve this need.

The VisaScreen certification process was born from this. Foreign nursing applicants in the United States might acquire either a permanent or temporary employment visa. This is after meeting the screening standards.

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has approved CGFNS International to confirm the credentials of nurses. With CGFNS, being the only entity to authenticate seven of them.

Types of Service Applications:

There are three types of VisaScreen service applications. They are:

• The basic service application
• the application to reprocess an expired order
• and the application to renew an expired VisaScreen® certificate

What Are The Requirements For VisaScreen?

Take note that the VisaScreen application necessitates the usage of a valid CGFNS account. Only then may you submit the following requirements.

Educational Assessment

The educational assessment assures that the applicant's education meets regulatory standards.  Applicants must meet the following to be eligible for the VisaScreen program:

• Finished a senior high school education separate from their professional schooling with honors;
• Have completed at least a two-year government-approved professional healthcare program; and
• Nurses must fulfill a minimum amount of clock and/or credit hours in specified theoretical and clinical domains.

Review of Licensure Information

This procedure assesses all original, current, and previous licenses.  Also, there are no impediments to registration or licensure.

English Language Proficiency Assessment

The applicant must demonstrate the required competency in spoken and written English. Nurses must pass one of two certified exams, the Test of English. These include (TOEFL) and the International English Language Test System (IELTS). Reading, listening, speaking, and writing are the four areas of the English exam.

The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is the most widely used English language test. To pass,  you'll need a 6.5 overall score. However, you'll need a 7 on the speaking component to meet US visa requirements.

Successfully Passed The NCLEX-RN Exam

Applicants who wish to obtain an occupational visa to practice as nurses in the United States must present a CGFNS Certificate. It includes a certification that you pass the (NCLEX-RN) exam.

If all requirements have been successfully met, you'll receive a VisaScreen Certificate.  If you wish to live and work in the US as a nurse you'll need to obtain this certification.
